A charity quiz night has raised £5,000 for Bristol Live’s campaign to support children at risk of hunger this Christmas.

The event, held at the BAWA club in Bristol and hosted by social enterprise Community of Purpose, saw 120 participants compete in the quiz and test their luck in a raffle. There was a diverse range of local businesses in attendance, including Bristol Water, Bristol Gig Club, Lancer Scott and Inside Travel Group. Many have already donated to and volunteered with the Break Free holiday club, after learning about the impact it has on disadvantaged communities in Bristol.

The Christmas campaign is aiming to raise £25,000, which will enable Community of Purpose’s Break Free programme to feed 1,000 disadvantaged children in Bristol over the winter. The money raised on Monday evening means the fundraising total has now reached over £20,000.

The raffle raised a further £1000 for the cause, with prizes donated by local attractions and businesses. These showcased the best that the local region has to offer, and included a boat trip on the Bristol Packet, a tasting experience at the Bristol Beer Factory and courtside seats at the Bristol Flyers.

Established by Amy Kington and her brother Joe Kington in 2016, Community of Purpose works to transform the lives and futures of young people in Bristol. The Break Free programme operates year-round to provide hot meals and activities for vulnerable children in Bristol during the school holidays.
