Like many organisations with communities at it’s heart, we found ourselves asking what we could possibly do to support the children, young people and families who would experience the most challenging circumstances during the disruption and confusion caused by COVID-19.
While one way or another, everyone’s lives have been negatively affected by the virus, we were all too aware that systemic deprivation and inequality in the parts of Bristol we work in meant that children and young people would find getting access to the right resources (for continued educational and personal development) a real challenge.
With so many amazing organisations (such as schools, foodbanks, charities and Bristol City Council) pulling together to ensure that food was being delivered to those in need, we felt it was important that our community had access to high quality resources for play, interaction and fun. It was from there that we kicked of the #boardgames4boredkids initiative, seeking to provide as many families as possible with packs of engaging board games and activities.
We’re glad to announce that the combination of the incredible generosity of individuals supporters alongside the support of the Always Look on the Bright Side of Life trust meant that we were able to provide 75 families across South Bristol with packs of high quality, age appropriate resources which included board games, card games and other engaging activities.
We’re extremely grateful to the staff at Oasis Academy Connaught, Oasis Academy New Oak and Fair Furlong Primary School who worked with us to identify families who would benefit most from the packs and deliver them too.
