BYHA 2020 Nominees Announced!

The finalists for the Bristol Young Heroes Awards 2020 have today been announced by organisers, Community of Purpose.

The Awards are now into their seventh year and this year have seen more entries than ever before. They celebrate Bristol’s young people who have overcome significant adversity to succeed or have made a substantial contribution to the city, and recognise extra special achievements in areas such as sport, arts & culture, volunteering and caring.

This year also sees the addition of the Team of Heroes award, with local organisations Youth Moves, Young Bristol and Feeding the Homeless all named as finalists in recognition of their services to youth in Bristol.

Amy Kington, Community of Purpose CEO, says: “Every year we are overwhelmed by the support and love for these awards and it is such an honour to be able to share the stories of our inspiring young people and celebrate what they have achieved. We’ve had some amazing nominations this year, so it’s been a tough job for the judges to select the finalists – there’s no doubt we will see some very worthy winners on the awards night.”

Speaking at the Young Heroes Nominees Reception at City Hall where the finalists were revealed, Deputy Mayor Asher Craig spoke of her admiration for the finalists, saying: “The opportunity for the city to find out about the Bristol Young Heroes nominees is not to be missed; these young people have been shortlisted for an award because of their immense bravery, creativity and kindness in the midst of often extremely challenging circumstances. With that in mind, it’s important that we not only celebrate their achievements but also take time to reflect on how their stories can inspire other young people and adults alike.”

The gala awards ceremony will take place at We The Curious on Friday 1st May 2020. The black tie dinner event gathers the business, voluntary and civic communities from across the city, alongside the nominees and their families, and awards sponsors and partners.
